ps-camera
Make a PlayStation camera (OmniVision OV580 — PS4 / PS5) just work on ALT Linux.
Install one package, plug the camera into USB 3.0, forget.
Project status: verified only on the PS5 camera so far. The PS4 camera should work the same way but is untested.
This is the meta-package. It pulls in everything needed for full plug-and-play support and a settings GUI:
| Package | Role |
|---|---|
ps-camera-firmware-loader |
device-agnostic firmware uploader + systemd/udev glue |
ps-camera-firmware |
OV580 firmware blob, device profile and udev rules |
tuner-pscamera |
Tuner module to configure the camera(s) |
Installation
Add the project repository — both the x86_64 and noarch lines are
needed (the packages span both architectures):
apt-repo add rpm https://altlinux.space/api/packages/PS-Camera/alt/alt.repo x86_64 classic
apt-repo add rpm https://altlinux.space/api/packages/PS-Camera/alt/alt.repo noarch classic
apt-get update
Then install everything with a single package:
apt-get install ps-camera
How it works
Plug the camera into a USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed) port. A udev rule detects it in
bootloader mode and a systemd service uploads the firmware automatically — on
boot, on hotplug and on every power cycle. The camera then re-enumerates as a
standard UVC webcam and /dev/videoN appears. No manual scripts, no root.
Multiple and different cameras are supported; each is remembered with its own settings, tunable from the PS Camera page in Tuner.
Note: the OV580 upload is only reliable over USB 3.0. Through a USB 2.0 hub it may fail or hang.
License
This meta-package's license tag is GPLv3+ Proprietary — it bundles GPL-3.0
tooling and pulls in a proprietary firmware blob. The individual packages are
licensed as follows:

About the proprietary firmware
The PS4/PS5 camera cannot operate without its OmniVision/Sony firmware, which is
a closed, proprietary image and is not redistributed under a free license. It
is shipped verbatim, without modification, by ps-camera-firmware only to make
hardware you already own work on Linux. There is no free replacement: the sensor
runs no other firmware. If you are a rights holder and object to redistribution,
contact the repository maintainers.
